FEP: Transparent and Flexible Fluoropolymer for Demanding Processes
The solution of choice for the chemical, electronics and medical sectors
FEP (perfluoroethylene-propylene copolymer) is a highly technical fluoropolymer appreciated for its universal chemical resistance, optical transparency and flexibility. Unlike PTFE, it is a meltable thermoplastic, making it compatible with processes such asextrusion and injection molding.
Its thermal stability, moisture resistance and chemical compatibility make it ideal for critical industrial applications, particularly in the aerospace, pharmaceutical, medical and electronics sectors.
Key properties of FEP
Virtually absolute chemical inertia
- Resistant to virtually all known chemicals
- Only fluorine gas, molten alkali metals or concentrated perchloric acid pose a risk
Excellent thermal resistance
- Continuous-use temperature: up to 200°C
- Compatible with all chemical and thermal sterilization methods
Flexibility and transparency
- Flexible, malleable material, even at low temperatures
- High optical transparency = visible in medical and instrumentation applications
Stable electrical properties
- Excellent electrical insulation, even in humid or high-temperature atmospheres
- Ideal for insulating technical cables and connectors
Ease of processing
- Unlike PTFE, FEP can be extruded, injected or thermoformed
- Good dimensional stability after processing
FEP fields of application
Wire and cable insulation
- Environments with high temperatures, humidity or chemicals
- Aerospace, nuclear and automotive industries
Pipe and equipment coatings
- For corrosive or high-purity fluids
- Used in fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals and laboratories
Medical and pharmaceutical applications
- Medical tubing, device sheaths, fluid lines
- Compatible with rigorous sterilization protocols
