Voltalef® 302: a PCTFE designed for extreme cryogenic applications

Voltalef® 302 is a grade of polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE) developed to withstand the demands of the most severe cryogenic environments. Unlike standard engineering polymers, it retains its mechanical properties and dimensional stability down to –200°C, limiting embrittlement, cracking, or deformation caused by thermal shock.
Applications where reliability at very low temperatures is a key factor, particularly in systems exposed to liquefied gases or extreme temperature cycles.

 

Mechanical stability and safety under cryogenic conditions

Voltalef® 302 combines:
  • stable mechanical properties at ultra-low temperatures,
  • low flammability, contributing to the safety of the facilities,
  • and chemical resistance suitable for common industrial environments.
These properties ensure consistent performance in applications where the failure of a polymer component could result in significant technical, economic, or safety risks.

 

Industrial Applications of Voltalef® 302

  • industrial and scientific cryogenics
  • the storage and transfer of cryogenic fluids (LN₂, LNG, LOX)
  • aerospace, for components exposed to extreme thermal environments
  • precision instrumentation operating at very low temperatures

For applications requiring enhanced chemical resistance combined with cryogenic performance, a more versatile grade such as Voltalef® 402 may be considered. 


 

Transformation and implementation

The Voltalef® 302 is available in the form of semi-finished products and can be processed by:
  • extrusion,
  • injection molding,
    which enables the manufacture of technical parts with geometries suited to cryogenic conditions.
