In the space industry, on-board components have to operate flawlessly in non-standard environments: vacuum, radiation, thermal shock, vibration and extreme temperatures ranging from cryogenic to very hot. In this context, High Performance Polymers (HPP) are emerging as lightweight, stable and robust alternatives to metals, while meeting the critical requirements of outgassing, dimensional stability and space vacuum compatibility.
